Fillers

Aging certainly takes a toll on your body. Your skin is generally the first sign of your age. Wrinkles, fine lines and dullness are everyone’s worst skincare nightmare. There is very little we can do to stop the passage of time, but luckily we can reduce its effects on our skin! With products like Juvederm® and Restylane®, we are able to restore that smooth skin and youthful glow you had in your 20’s.

What are Fillers?

Juvederm® and Restylane® fillers are a group of dermal fillers used to reduce the appearance of wrinkles and restore volume to the face. People commonly use Juvederm to fill in the laugh lines next to their mouths (which we’re sure they don’t find very funny.) Other patients have wrinkles around their mouths that make it look like they’re permanently frowning. Juverderm® can help with that too. You may also use it to fill in areas around the nose, and add volume to the cheeks and lips. Many people find that makeup and skincare product application is much simpler and smoother after fillers, not to mention leaving the house makeup-free is easier!

How Do Fillers Work?

Skin normally contains an abundance of a naturally hydrating substance called hyaluronic acid (HA). This substance helps keep skin plump and radiant. However, with age this substance begins to decrease in production. This can be because of sun exposure and other environmental factors (always remember your sunscreen!) It is actually made from a form of HA, meaning it’s a safe replacement. Juvederm® brings back volume and smooths out wrinkles and folds. It is also formulated with lidocaine, a common anesthetic used to numb the area of treatment. This results in a more comfortable injection procedure!

What Areas Can Fillers Treat?

Juvederm® and Restylane® are most commonly used on wrinkles around the mouth, nasolabial folds, lips, and cheeks. ...But that’s not it! Fillers can also be used to reduce acne scars, lift the cheeks, fill loose or sagging skin for a younger look (called a “liquid facelift”), change the shape of your nose, and get plumper lips. There are so many possibilities!

How Long Do Fillers Last?

This depends on the person and the area of treatment. Juvederm® and Restylane® typically last for up to a year in the nasolabial folds. In the lips, it generally only lasts for 6 months due to the higher blood flow in that area. Touch ups can be performed at any point after treatment. Unsatisfactory results can also be dissolved in office if necessary.

Preparing For Your Fillers Appointment

The Juvederm® or Restylane® procedure will take about 15 to 30 minutes. You should avoid any over-the-counter pain relievers in the week prior to your appointment, as these can thin the blood and cause excessive bleeding and bruising around the injection site. Your doctor will numb your lips prior to injecting. After the procedure, you will likely experience pain, tenderness, redness, swelling, bruising, firmness and bumps at the injection site. These are common and should subside in the first week. Ice should help with the swelling. In the 24 hours after your treatment, be sure to avoid strenuous exercise, consumption of alcohol and extended exposure to sun or heat.
