David
Rho, M.D.
Dr. David Rho graduated from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology
in 1985, with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology. At MIT, he
conducted research in visual anatomy and physiology. He received
his Doctor of Medicine degree from the Columbia University College
of Physicians and Surgeons in 1989. After an internship year in the
Department of Medicine at the Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center,
he completed his residency at the Department of Ophthalmology at
Lenox Hill Hospital in New York City.
At Lenox Hill, he authored a chapter on complications of cataract
surgery in the recently published textbook Complications of Ophthalmic
Surgery. Dr. Rho then completed two fellowships in vitreo-retinal diseases
and surgery, the first at Loma Linda School of Medicine in Los Angeles,
California, and the second at Harvard Medical School in Boston, Massachusetts.
At Loma Linda, he was awarded the Award for Outstanding Teaching and
Dedication by the ophthalmology residents. At Harvard, he completed
and published several research studies investigating diabetic retinopathy
and retinal vascular diseases.
Dr. Rho comes to Soll Eye Associates from Albany, New York, where
he served as Clinical Associate Professor of Ophthalmology at Albany
Medical College, on the faculty of the Retina service. Dr. Rho is a
board certified ophthalmologist, and he brings additional expertise
in vitreo-retinal diseases and surgery. His extensive training allows
him to perform state-of-the-art laser and surgical vitreo-retinal procedures,
with particular interests in diabetic retinopathy and macular diseases.
He has several publications in major peer-reviewed ophthalmology journals
and regularly presents his research at numerous national ophthalmology
conferences. Dr. Rho currently serves as chairman of the Education
Committee for the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology.
Dr. Rho can converse in English, Spanish and Korean, and welcomes
most insurance plans, including Medicare, Medicaid and most HMO and
PPO plans. His hobbies include music and ice-skating, and he is an
avid tennis player. He is married to a wonderful woman named Linda
and has two delightful daughters, Emily and Sarah.
